Music&Wine, Year 2, Project 2

An apartment building in the Gun Quarter, an industrial area in Birmingham, UK, with and additional function of a music hub.

The first two floors are dedicated to music, as the site is located between music studios, the new Birmingham Conservatoire and schools. With paths running through the site, the design connects the quiet street,a music shop facing it,  with the canal, by which a cafe and an open air stage are located. Above that rise twelve apartments of various sizes, creating a u-shaped layout, achieving at least three facade aspects for each apartment.

A simple concrete structure is wrapped in a light steel structure with a steel mesh on it, on which climber plants would grow, very common in the area, with wines of different colours climbing on the old brick facades. This would evolve into an ever-changing design, with the opportunity for the apartment inhabitants, to personalise their facades with plants of their choice.
